Pre-Op Instructions
SCHEDULING YOUR SURGERY:
- The surgeon's medical assistant will schedule your surgery. It is sometimes necessary to have a medical clearance before your surgery will be scheduled. The medical assistant will inform you if medical clearance is necessary
- Contact your insurance company to identify any out of pocket expenses associated with your surgery
7 DAYS PRIOR TO SURGERY:
- Stop all medications that can increase bleeding unless otherwise instructed by your physician
- Attend your pre-registration appointment with the hospital (Please bring your insurance cards)
- Confirm your arrival time to the hospital at your pre-registration appointment
WITHIN ONE WEEK PRIOR TO SURGERY:
- Prepare your home for your return from the hospital
- Make plans for someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery
- Schedule your first postoperative outpatient physical therapy appointment (407-303-4003) if you have been given a prescription for physical therapy
THE DAY BEFORE SURGERY:
- Have your prescriptions filled prior to your surgery, if prescriptions have been given to you
- Be sure you have enough ice to load into the cryo-cuff the patient will go home with after surgery
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight unless your surgeon has instructed you to take your blood pressure or pain medication on the morning of surgery with a sip of water
THE DAY OF SURGERY:
- Arrive to the hospital on time and report to the surgical unit on the 3rd floor or the ambulatory surgical center as directed
- Have a friend of family member available to transport you home
